DIRECTIONS TO AFRIKA BURNS FROM CAPE TOWN

The venue for Afrika Burns is a fabulously remote, beautiful and other-worldly area: it’s like a three and a half hour drive to the moon.  The perfect blank canvas that we wish to provide for Afrika Burns to become what its going to become.  This venue is on the longest stretch of road in South Africa without a town on it (we are half way up it).  So this means that preparation is very important.

Once off the N1, the remainder of the route is about 45 km on  tar  and 110 km on un-tarred road. The un-tarred road is in good condition and any regular car can drive on it. There are some road-works in the area which may (or may not) be ongoing during the event. The second half of the journey is without cell phone reception. Please make sure that you have a decent spare tyre, jack and wheel spanner.

NB: Please be reminded that there will be no commercial vending/activity at Afrika Burns whatsoever … there will be NO food, drinks or booze for sale at the event. You must bring all your own food, WATER (for drinking, cleaning and washing) and camping equipment for the full duration of your stay at the event.

It’s a hot desert environment, so please make sure that you bring sufficient water, a shade structure for your campsite is also advisable. Also remember that Afrika Burns is a “leave-no-trace” event and you must remove all your own rubbish at the end of the event. ALSO, don’t forget that Afrika Burns is a participant created event. So don’t forget to bring whatever you and your group have been “komplotting” to gift to the Afrika Burns community.…
