Prior to Afrika Burns there will be 3 weeks of workshops held in Cape Town which will serve to build large scale ART that will grace the festival. June 29-July 1 Stage One
July 6-8 Stage Two
July 13-15 Stage Three
Friday Day 1 10am-8pm [Orientation & Build Day] 8-10hrs
1] Meet and get to know each other and what we are preparing to build
2] Orientation of the equipment and how to use it
3] Go over the basic skills of welding and fabrication
4] Evaluate the plans for the sculpture and how it all fits together
5] Work on layout and parts preparations for the sculpture
Saturday Day 2 10am-8pm [Build Day] 8-10hrs
1] Continue with layout and parts preparation
2] Work together in shifts welding the armature
3] Begin skinning the form
Sunday Day 3 10am-8pm [Finish Day] 8-10hrs
1] Finish skinning the form
2] Grind and sand
3] Assemble and admire the finished product
4] Prepare the sculpture for shipment to the Africa Burns site.
5] As a group, clean up the space we used to build the sculpture.
There will be no smoking, drugs, or alcohol in the workshop. It is suggested to bring a lunch and/or snack with you. There will be a one hour break in the middle of each day.
